Demver Bound!!

So I’m off to Denver on Sunday to cover the Democratic Convention. As I suspected when i was told i was going, the station is really looking to add plenty of content from us, not only for the newscasts but also for the web. The interesting thing we will find out is whether we can produce enough content for the web and for 4 local newscasts all with only 2 people and limited overtime. I’m up for the challenge as this is the way people are starting to get their news. And as an internet netizen and internet multi media junky the bottom line remains the same, whether people decide to get their news from the internet or local TV or both, it’s not quantity of content, but the quality of that content.

We’ll see how it goes, i will, as usual, be blogging my Democratic Convention experience. I haven’t settled on whether i will only be doing regular posting with photos. If i have enough time i will try and stream some live video and do some video podcasts hopefully with some local kc bloggers, some local area delegates or some end of day convention recaps. I’m not sure yet but check back here often and if you have any ideas for me or something particular you would like us to shoot and talk about drop me a message at Laz@heycamerman.net or you can also get a message to me through this website by clicking the story idea or anonymous tips buttons at the top of the page.

I hope this will be great roadtrip, i can’t wait for the madness and to see all the Obama sheep that make up the Democratic Party. :-) and if anyone has a tye dye shirt i can borrow that would be great. :-)

Adios

Obama texting VP Selection to supporters, so what!

The Obama campaign sending text messages to inform the masses is neither innovative nor grass roots. Hell my wife texts me to bring home milk after work. For the Drive-by media to fawn over this announcement as a sign of how well the Obama campaign is “in touch” with the “hip” kids is ridiculous. I would of been stunned had they not chosen this way to make a huge announcement. Even the liberal Huffington Post writes about the “texting” phenomenon back to 2004 and texting has been in use even longer than that.

In 2004, Rock the Vote began to build our mobile program, texting young people to remind them to turn in their voter registration forms, and get out to vote. Our innovative project signed 118,000 young people to receive political information and GOTV messages through their cell phones. Our daily messaging in the final days of the campaign included celebrity voicemails that explained how to find a polling place via the web or through an automatic patch-through to 1800MYVOTE1.

Earlier than most voter registration organizations, Rock the Vote realized that the best way to reach young people was by cell — the Millennial Generation aren’t tied to landlines.

In 2006 the New Voters Project conducted a study to test the effectiveness of mobile messaging. Sure young voters have cell phones–but are they more likely to take action from a text?

The answer is yes.

Young voters who received a text message reminder were 4% points more likely to turn out on Election Day.

A 2008 Rock the Vote study showed similar results for registration — young people were 4.2% more likely to turn in their voter registration forms during the presidential primaries if reminded by text message.

Political Shenanigans!

A friend of mine decided while i was away covering Missouri primary elections, he would deface my awesomely great american car , 87 Chevy celebrity, with this liberal nuts sticker. Al Franken should stick to what he knows best, and if anyone knows what that is please let me know. What’s the sayin…”paybacks are a b*tch. :-)

My Job Is Like Golf.

I believe i have said this before, shooting video for the news is like playing a round of golf with a 50 handicap and a six pack. No matter how many times you hit it in the water, hit a tree, lay it in the sand or slice it into the next fairway you keep going back as long as one shot goes semi-straight and more that 5 feet high off the ground. For me, shooting news is that way. This past Thursday I was given the assignment of shooting a story with one of our sports reporters at the KC Zoo with a player from the Kansas City Royals. I know, doesn’t sound promising, but wait (more…)
A teacher in N’awlins, Louisiana asked her 6th grade class how many of them were Obama fans.
Not really knowing what an Obama fan is, but wanting to be liked by the teacher, all the kids raised their hands except for Little Stevie.
The teacher asked Little Steive why he had decided to be different … again.
Little Stevie said, “Because I’m not an Obama fan.”
The teacher asked, “Why aren’t you an Obama fan?”
Stevie said, “Because I’m a Republican.”
The teacher asked him why he’s a Republican. (more…)

copyright APThe following review comes from M (censored) & Me>There’s not an opening ceremony ever that won’t bore me if I’m not watching it live. I swear, this thing probably has the most complicated choreography I’ve ever seen and I have slowly ended up reading about the Redskins. I think I have an “artsy” limit for things on TV. Woulda been sweet to be there, though. I’ve been watching this thing for an hour and I’m already bored to tears despite the amazing display on (more…)

Silky Pony and the Democrats Continue Side Show

In an interview for broadcast tonight on Nightline, Edwards told ABC News correspondent Bob Woodruff he did have an affair with 44-year old Rielle Hunter, but said that he did not love her.

Edwards also denied he was the father of Hunter’s baby girl, Frances Quinn, although the one-time Democratic Presidential candidate said he has not taken a paternity test.

Edwards said he knew he was not the father based on timing of the baby’s birth on February 27, 2008. He said his affair ended too soon for him to have been the father.

A former campaign aide, Andrew Young, has said he was the father of the child.

According to friends of Hunter, Edwards met her at a New York city bar in 2006. His political action committee later paid her $114,000 to produce campaign website documentaries despite her lack of experience.

Edwards said the affair began during the campaign after she was hired. Hunter traveled with Edwards around the country and to Africa.

Edwards said his wife, Elizabeth, and others in his family became aware of the affair in 2006.

Edwards made a point of telling Woodruff that his wife’s cancer was in remission when he began the affair with Hunter. Elizabeth Edwards has since been diagnosed with an incurable form of the disease.
